When You Mix Religion & Politics Sombody Gets Burned!
I like to talk. I like to discuss. I like to argue. I even like to fight. But, I really love to change people's opinions. The first four things are very easy to do , but that last one,ooowee!!! Most folks in these hyar hills won't budge from belief in some sort of supernatural creation myth so I don't try that angle much anymore, so I look to patriotism to help me out these days. Do you pledge anything worthwhile to a piece of fabric or want your children to swear an oath to an image that is clearly forbidden in any of the top three religions practiced in this fair land ? Well ,did I start anything?

You've brought up a great point about Idol Worship and religion discouraging us against it. But that would include not only the flag, but a form of execution in gold hanging around our neck or a book printed, published and sold by human beings (should be free always) and not worshiped-it's a material thing.
I think religions pick and choose their battle according to what fits their happy place. Against homosexuality but will eat pig meat; man submit to God-woman submit to man, but you can divorce. I think religion is confusing for a reason: so the rules can be made up as we go...
