MY HEROS HAVE ALWAYS BEEN JAMMERS !!!

In this world of sports entertainment networks,former jocks becoming TV commentators,and all the sports blogs out there,,just about every sport enjoys being talked into the ground.....Well, get ready Knoxpatch, here comes another one !!! That's right,it's ROLLER DERBY TIME IN TENNESSEE !!!! And the Hard Knox Rollergirls are indeed a team on the way up in the derby world... Earlier this year they were accepted into the W.F.T.D.A. (Womens' Flat Track Derby Association) the national ruling body for the sport... These women wear thier W.F.T.D.A. patch with a lot of pride, as they should ,because it takes much effort , dedication, and fortitude to put themselves in that next tier of competition... Many grueling practices,several nasty bruises, some severe track-burns,broken fingers,ankles,shouders, and chipped teeth with bloody noses,have taken thier toll,mind you , these girls are tough ,rough ,and got the stuff!!! Congrats ladies! Now I understand that most folks don't have a clue about any of this, so here goes... A "Bout" as games are called,consist of either two thirty minute or three twenty minute periods..Each period is divided into two minute "JAMS" ... There are five players per side on an oval track...Four of the players on each team are blockers(they attempt to prevent the opposing team from scoring points by being in the way of or knocking down the other team's Jammer) One of the players on each side is the Jammer (who scores points by lapping the opposing players )... The Blockers start the jam thirty feet ahead of the Jammers as the first whistle is blown...As they roll all together, they are called the PACK at this point..When the Pack has skated twenty feet ahead of the start line,the second whistle is blown and the Jammers start...Now the Jammers must catch up to and weave thier way though the Pack, then speed-skate around the track to catch back up to the Pack ,and then score points for each opposing player they pass from that point on ...It sounds simple I know, but,there are many rules to be followed or a player might find themselves on the PENALTY BENCH watching their friends go by..... I have been a fan since my very first "BOUT" and only infirmity or death will keep me away...Our rollergirls (Hard Knox ) can hang with the best...And I'm not just blowin smoke... Of coarse, since the start, my heros have always been Jammers!!! And HardKnox has is blessed with good ones, but we also have a couple of great ones ...A crowd favorite is a Jammer called Goblynn #39 ( I want to have her babies ) that in one game scored FIFTY points in five Jams against the Mobile Roller Girls...Whatta woman!!!
